It has been an experience.
Signing off Brian Lee.

Things I Have Learned in EDM 310

The following is a list of things I have learned to do in EDM 310 this semester:
Turn on the computer
Create a Blog
Use PowerPoint
Make a try fold brochure
Create a Web Site
Create a Word Document
Use Spreadsheets such as:
Grades
Money
Times tables
Charts
Address Book
Shift Click technique

My American History Web Site

The web site I made is about some of my favorite events in American History. Although there are only 11 pictures on the site, the ones that are there have significance in our country's history.
I have completed my site, but I would like to learn more about web site design to better the appearance of any site I may work on in the future. I have seen other sites with different background patterns and many neat features, which would be interesting to learn how to create. When I have the time, I would like to investigate how to make those features and incorporate them into future site designs.

Kimberly K Rushan Web Page

I reviewed Kimberly's web site. Everything looked really good. However, when using page source I found one small typo with a bracket, but overall it was a great web site.

Professor Seymour Papert

Papert has been noted for helping children learn more about computers and was one of the first to recognize how computers could change education. Papert is the inventor of the LOGO computer language. He is also the Aurthur of a number of books, some of which are: Mindstorms: Children, Computers, and Powerful Ideas, The Children's Machine: Rethinking School in the Age of the Computer, and The Connected Family: Bridging the Digital Generation Gap. He has also published over 60 papers, which some can be found by clicking here and going to Recent Essays on that web page. Papert worked with Jean Piaget during the 1960, and is considered one of the most brilliant proteges of Piaget.
While attending his latest conference on December 5, 2006, Papert was hit by a motorcycle while crossing a road. He underwent brain surgery to remove a blood clot that had formed. He is still undergoing rehab, but is recovering well. The last project he was working on was One Laptop Per Child. The program is going very well, and is on its way to distributing as many laptops to developed countries as possible.
If you would like more information on this topic you can go to Google.com and look up Seymour Papert studies on OLPC or click on this link Click Here, and it will take you to a article on this subject.

School Spreadsheet Safari

This is a great website for teachers and students alike. It tells all the ways spreadsheets can be used in the classroom. It tells how you can use spreadsheets in the areas of math, social studies, English, and science. It also gives several examples you can use in each subject.
There are many different ways to use a spreadsheet. This website shows how teachers can use a spreadsheet as a line graph, statistical graph, a place to keep grades and track who's finished homework and who has not. It shows how students can use a spreadsheet as a tool for studying vocabulary words and it even shows how they could use a spreadsheet as a coloring page. To see this great site click here.

Spending The Day With My Baby

For Mardis Gras I didn't catch beads or a moon pie. I spent the day and evening at home with my wife and son. After my wife went to work that afternoon, me and my son went bike riding over to some of our neighbors to see what was new in the neighborhood. My day might not have been as exciting as everyone else, but it was a good day for me.

Blogging In The Classroom

Blogging in EDM 310 has been a very great experience for me. I can see where it could be a very useful tool in education. Before I came into EDM 310, I never really used a Blog. It has opened my eyes to a new and powerful resource. Since I have started my blog, I have found myself searching for other blogs pertaining to my interests.
In my opinion, I think blogs in classrooms would be a tool for learning. It could be beneficial for some students, but there are those who can not work a computer. I understand in education we, as teachers, are to teach students how to do this. However, for poorer families who do not have computers, the ability to train the students at school would be challenging. The only time a student such as this would have access to a computer would be at school. A teacher would be limited to what they could do with the blog unless all students had a computer at home.
A good aspect to a blog in the classroom would be for the parents of the students. If every parent had access to the internet, the teacher could post what was going on in the class for the parents to see. It would be like a bulletin board for the class and the parents. I think one day very soon a blog could be helpful, not only to the students, but also to the teachers and parents.

My PowerPoint Presentation

I am doing my powerpoint presention on my family. That includes my mom, dad, sisters, wife, and son. I also have a few slide's of the vacation that my wife and I took to Mexico. That was a unique trip, because my wife was only about two months from having our son. She did not like all the walking that we had to do. I am extremely happy with where I am in life. I have a loving wife, a cute son, and I have the chance to go back to school. What more could a guy ask for?
Here is a sneek peek of my presentation. These are pictures of my wife and son.

WHY I AM IN COLLEGE !!!!

Why I started college is a very interesting story. I worked for many years in the insulation business. We worked on comercial and industrial building projects. We worked on buildings such as the University Library, Mitchell center and many more. I was working long hours seven day's a week. I got to the point where I had all I could take. Thats when I decided to quit my job and start school. One of the things that allowed me to go back to school is the fact that my loving wife works as a RN. She makes the money that we live on. I have promised her that she could quit when I finish school, and she is awaiting that day. That is my story of how I started attending the University South Alabama.
